Sri Maha Bodiya

Location : Anuradhapura in North Central Province

Importance : Sri Maha Bodiya also known as Jaya Sri Maha Bodiya is one of main sacred place of all Sri Lankan and worldwide Buddhists. Sri Maha Bodhi is the southern branch of the historical Sri Maha Bodhi at Buddha Gaya in India which the Lord Buddha attained Enlightenment. Sri Maha Bodhi was planted in 236 BC during the reign of King Devanampiya Tissa and this is the oldest living human-planted tree in the world with a known planting date and written history.
