Ruwanweli Maha Seya

Location : Ancient city of Anuradhapura in North Central Province

Importance : Ruwanweli Maha Seya or Ruwanweli Stupa is an ancient stupa built by King Dhutugemunu during the 2 nd century of BC. Ruwanweliseya is one of most Sacred Stupa in Sri Lanka. This Stupa is enshrining large number of sacred relics of the Lord Buddha. It is said that One Drona of the Lord Buddha's relics are enshrined in this stupa. Ruwanweliseya is one of the world's tallest ancient monuments, with the height of 103 m (338 ft) and with a circumference of 290 m (951 ft).
