Importance : Mahiyanganaya Raja Maha Viharaya is an Ancient Buddhist Temple in Sri Lanka. It was built in 6 th century BC and Mahiyangana Stupa is the first stupa in ancient Sri Lanka. As per the historical records The Lord Buddha visited Mahiyanganaya, in the ninth month after the attained enlightenment, as the first visit to the Sri Lanka.
