Nawagamuwa Pattini Devalaya
Location : Nawagamuwa near Hanwella in Colombo District in Western Province
Importance : Nawagamuwa Temple / Nawagamuwa Pattini Devalaya is a Buddhists temple / Shrine dedicated to the God named “Paththini Deviyo”. This temple is also very sacred for the Sri Lankan Buddhists. It is believed that “Paththini Deviyo” is protecting people from the diseases. The “Perahera Festival” is a ceremonial procession which is held annually during the month of August. This traditional ceremony is held to honour the Goddess Pattini and to invoke blessings for the people. This procession is filled with lot of cultural items and decorated elephants.
