| Kuttam Pokuna (Twin Ponds) |
Location : Sacred city of Anuradhapura in North Central Province
Importance : Kuttam Pokuna / Twin Ponds is pair of bathing pool located in ancient city of Anuradhapura. Kuttam Pokuna is real artistic creation and a great achievement of Hydraulic Engineering and Architecture in ancient Sri Lanka. It is believed that Kuttam Pokuna was built by King Aggabodhi during the 6 th century. The larger pool / pond is 132 ft by 51 ft, while the smaller pool / pond is 91 ft by 51 ft. There was an underground pipeline system with filters for water supply and drainage purposes. Therefore Kuttam Pokuna is considered as marvel of ancient architecture and Hydraulic Engineering.
