Isurumuniya Raja Maha Viharaya

Location : Sacred city of Anuradhapura in North Central Province

Importance : Isurumuniya Raja Maha Viharaya is an ancient Buddhist temple built by King Devanampiyatissa during the 3 rd century of BC. Isurumuniya temple is famous and became a tourist attraction due to the great carvings placed at the temple premises. Mainly there are 03 carvings in this temple. That is “Isurumuniya Lovers” also called as “Isurumuni Pem Yuwala”, “Royal Family Carving” and “Elephant Pond Carving”.
