Devinuwara Temple
Location : Devinuwara in Matara District in Southern Province
Importance : Devinuwara Temple / Devinuwara Upulwan Devalaya is a Buddhists temple complex dedicated to the God named “Upulvan Deviyo” or “God Vishnu”. As per the Buddhists believes “Upulvan Deviyo” or “God Vishnu” is the god whom the Lord Buddha entrusted with the guardianship of Sri Lanka and Buddhism of the country. “Devinuwara Perahera festival” is the main festival which is held annually during the month of July / August. It is a ceremonial procession to pay homage to the God.
