Best time to visit – February to August is best time to visit Arisimale beach (but in other periods also it is not bad to visit)
Key features – Arisimale beach is very special beach in Sri Lanka. In Tamil language “Arisi” means Rice and “male” means mountain. Therefore, the meaning of “Arisimale” is rice mountain. The reason for that name is the specialty of the sand in this beach. The particle size of the sand in this beach is relatively large and it is very similar to the rice. Therefore, Arisimale beach is considered as very special beach in Sri Lanka. In addition to the sand type, Arisimale is historically important beach. Thapassu Balluka, the two merchants from India who brought the sacred hair of the Lord Buddha, is said to have landed at Arisimale Beach and later they traveled up to Thiriyaya to deposit it in a shrine located few kilometers from here.
