Polonnaruwa Gal Viharaya is ancient Buddhist temple located at the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. It was built by King Maha Parakramabahu during the 12 th century. The main feature of the Gal Viharaya is large statues of Lord Buddha carved by the large granite rock. There is a seated image of Lord Buddha with a height of 15 feet, standing image with a height of 07 m and reclining image with a length of 14 m in this premises. All images / statues are considered as great carving creations carved in a rock face. Gal Vihara is one of main attraction of both local and foreign tourists.
