Buddhist temple located nearly 40 km from the Anuradhapura. This temple complex is built by
King Devanampiyatissa during the 3 rd century of BC. Thanthirimale temple is very sacred temple for the Sri Lankan Buddhists due to the sacred Bo tree planted at the top of the temple complex. Thanthirimale Bo tree is one of the first eight offshoots of Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura. The Bo Tree is placed on top of large stony layer in this premises. In addition to the sacred Bo Tree it can be seen Samadhi and Reclining Lord Buddha statues carved from the large rocks. 

Thanthirimale temple is located in very scenic environment and it has attractive, calm and quiet surrounding which is ideal condition for a temple. Thanthirimale temple is an ancient temple complex with sacred Bo Tree, Stupa, Statues, caves and other buildings. Today Thanthirimale is very famous and important sacred temple among the local and foreign tourists due to the Sacred Bo Tree, ancient ruins and unbelievable environment.
