from Anuradhapura city. Mihintale is the inception place of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, because the Arahant Mahinda Thera met the King Devanampiyatissa at this site. Later Arahant Mahinda
Thera and other venerable Buddhist Monks have stayed in this premises and King
Devanampiyatissa constructed vihara and caves for them with other facilities. After that other kings also added and developed this temple. Mihintale was a Monastery and temple complex consisted with Stupas, Vihara, Statue, Relic houses, hospitals, ponds and other necessary buildings.
