Kalutara Bodhiya and Stupa / Kalutara Temple

  • Importance : Kalutara Bodhiya is a Sacred Bo tree which is one of the 32 saplings of the Jaya Sri

Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. This Bo tree was planted during the period of king
Devanampiyatissa in the 2nd century BC.
Kalutara Chaithya / Kalutara Stupa is located same premises but in the opposite side of the road.
The specialty of the Kalutara Stupa is, it is the one of a few hollow Buddhist stupas in the world.
People can go to the inside of stupa and in the inside, there are images, paintings and another
small stupa for worshiping.
Kalutara Bodhiya and Stupa is located at the left bank of Kalu river and very close to the Galle – Colombo main road.
